 Excelsior Oak Slat Trunk .
We have found yet another of the rather exquisite Excelsior oak slat dome top trunks. This one meets or exceeds our expectations of what we want to see in an Excelsior trunk. It has a high dome, the original fitted lid and tray. It also carries the original heavy cast iron latches as well as the solid brass lock that came with it and a key to operate it. It has rollers on the bottom and and a patina on the oak that is one of the best we have ever seen.
The overall condition of this trunk is very good. Our craftsmen have put an extra effort into this trunk to bring it to the highest level possible. The finish is our usual tough, durable sealer and will withstand any spills and scrapes.
These trunks are getting very scarce (if you can say that about a very rare trunk) and we always feel fortunate, indeed, to ever find one. In fact, we feel that Excelsior oak slat trunks are the rarest and best trunks ever made. You can use this great trunk for your winter woolens or quilts. It will go well in any room in your home.

Beware of claims that a trunk offered for sale is a genuine Excelsior Oak Slat trunk. These trunks are being reproduced due to their high value. There were other makers besides Excelsior and many, even though antique, are of inferior quality. Ask for proof before you purchase. Additionally, has it been refinished or restored? A badly done job will reduce the value of this trunk and you may have to pay a thousand dollars or more to have it redone properly. We have seen a number of them on Ebay that are not the real thing.
