| Early High Dome Top Trunk.
There are dome tops and then there are incredible dome tops. This is the highest dome top we have ever seen. It's a full 30" high at the center. Most average about 24". This is just a superb trunk retaining its original solid herringbone embossed zinc covering and having all of the other hallmarks of a high quality trunk. It has a working solid brass lock and latch made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and it has scalloped sheet steel trim. The cast iron flip latches are another indication as to the pedigree of this wonderful and exceptional trunk.
We have restored this trunk to very much the same way it looked when first made, repaired any flaws, and have fitted a key to the solid brass lock.
This is an very rare and fine trunk that we see few of. This trunk was also featured in our book on antique trunks, Antique Trunks: Identification and Price Guide, on page 53. The previous owners have reluctantly been reducing the size of their great collection and we were quite fortunate to acquire it. We have relined the interior of this trunk and it is ready for use in your home.
